Korean ski resort & lesson picker

Korea has 4 main ski resorts for visitors: 용평 (Yongpyong), 휘닉스 (Phoenix Pyeongchang), 하이원 (High1), 알펜시아 (Alpensia). All 2-3h from Seoul by shuttle bus. Lift tickets run ₩60,000–₩90,000/day, ski/board rentals ₩30,000–₩45,000/day, lessons ₩80,000–₩150,000 for a 2-3 hour session. The math changes if you do day-trip vs overnight. This tool helps pick.

What this solves

Most "Korea ski" lists don't tell you which resort matches your level, or that day-trip + lessons is a real option (3am Seoul pickup, ski by 10am). This tool sizes cost by resort and beginner status.

Yongpyong

Largest, family-friendly, 31 slopes. Varied terrain; good for all levels. Long-running ski school (1990s Olympic-era facilities). Resort hotels at base. ~2.5h from Seoul by bus.

Phoenix Park

Pyeongchang, hot spring + ski combo. 21 slopes, beginner-friendly, connected to hotel with onsen (water park). 2h from Seoul.

High1

3 ski resorts, slightly cheaper. Highest slopes, more challenging. Combo lift pass across 3 mountains. Longer shuttle (~3h from Seoul).

Alpensia

Olympic legacy (2018 PyeongChang), smaller crowds. 6 slopes, beginner-friendly. Connected to Intercontinental hotel. ~2h from Seoul.

FAQ

Day-trip vs overnight?

Day-trip saves hotel, but 03:00 pickup + 20:00 return is brutal. Overnight is best for 2+ days.

Best for beginners?

Phoenix or Alpensia. Both have gentle bunny slopes and English-speaking instructors.

Ski or snowboard?

Ski is cheaper at Korean resorts (1/2 instructors vs board); both work for first-timers.

Can I rent clothes?

Yes — full outfit ₩25,000–₩40,000/day. Bring thermal underlayer, gloves, goggles.
